It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 15 Episode 1 Recap
In the episode The Gang Makes Lethal Weapon 7, Dee, Charlie, Mac, Dennis and Frank decide it’s time to shoot Lethal Weapon 5. The gang is concerned that their first two unofficial franchise items have been removed from the library collection, with the exception of Dennis, who is delighted with their decision to keep the series in the first place. They believe their only solution is to make another movie, and in doing so they find it difficult to adapt to the changing rules of Hollywood.
Dennis leads the pre-production session while Mac delivers a hilarious speech about mistakes that is peppered with moments of irony. He’s also proud of himself for not putting on shoe polish this time around to play Roger Murtaugh. Dennis realizes that the perception of the black community is a little skewed. They cast Murtaugh with former antagonist Pepper Jack, which further confirms Dennis’ claim that the gang has little experience with black people.
So each member decides to play a black celebrity that fits the theme of the film. Owens acts as Danny Glover while Owens mimics the emotional speeches of Roger Murtaugh with utter zeal and fervor. Sunny and Mac are impressed with Owens and let him take control of the creative process. His documentary received a lot of acclaim, but the gang is mad at him for criticizing them throughout the performance.
