When Valentina fails to attend a football game party Charlie is hosting, she promises him that she and her potential children will watch games with him in the future. Valentina’s words startle Charlie, who doesn’t want children. The two talk about it, with Valentina making it clear that she wishes for a large family in the future. Charlie, marked by the painful childhood with his parents, tells Valentina that he doesn’t want children just to become such a parent.
At the end of the first season finale, Valentina reveals to Sophie that she broke up with Charlie. Ever since Charlie and Valentina broke up, the former could be thinking about moving back to England. With nothing holding him back in New York City, Charlie may find it unnecessary to continue his life in a place he doesn’t identify with. If that’s the case, Charlie’s potential decision to move away from New York City will likely pave the way for Tom Ainsley’s exit from the series. Is Charlie leaving How I Met Your Father? Will Tom Ainsley be in Season 2?
The maturity that Charlie and Valentina show in cultivating their relationship from the first episode of the series to the season one finale is incredibly touching. Given their compatibility, it’s no surprise that their split is a startling development for the characters’ ardent admirers. As their paths part, fans are rightly concerned about Tom Ainsley’s possible exit from the series, as Charlie’s life is at a crossroads. Indeed, as someone who moves frequently from one country to another, there is a possibility that Charlie will leave New York City when his life with Valentina comes to an end, opening a door for Ainsley’s exit.

However, neither Hulu nor Ainsley have released any official statement or announcement regarding Charlie’s alleged departure from the series, pointing to the possibility that the actor could return for the second season. Additionally, in a March 2022 interview, co-creator Isaac Aptaker spoke about the different paths one can take to parenthood, regardless of the decision not to have children at some point in one’s life. Aptaker’s words hint at the possibility that there could be complications in Charlie’s life if he chooses not to be a father. So it could be that in the sitcom’s second season, Charlie is more concerned with the aftermath of his decision than with Ainsley’s exit.
Charlie and Valentina consistently manage to show that they can overcome any differences that come their way. We can hope that their decision to break up was just a spur of the moment decision and that they will reconsider giving their relationship another chance just like they did when they first broke up.
