‘Hocus Pocus 3’ update: Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy have had mixed reactions to the third film

September 19, 2022

Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy are back as the Sanderson Sisters in Hocus Pocus 2. Thirty years after the release of the first film, a second part is just around the corner, but will there also be Hocus Pocus 3 after that?

It seems the stars themselves have had mixed reactions to Hocus Pocus 3. Does that mean Hocus Pocus 2 will be the last time fans see the Sanderson Sisters?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Najimy, who plays Mary Sanderson, revealed she had doubts about the third film. She said she felt the film was already done, although she remained optimistic, adding: Never say never.

Still, she was grateful they had the chance to make the film a second time. She then explained that while she knew the film had a solid fan base, she had no idea if there would be a third part.

Whatever the case, she’s excited to bring Hocus Pocus 2 to fans. On the other hand, Parker, who plays Sarah, seemed to know how Hocus Pocus 3 would work.

She said Najimy suggested the third film should be animated, which she thought was clever and cool. Aside from being fun, it could also be fun, interesting, and innovative.

Elsewhere, the director of the sequel, Anne Fletcher, explained to that SFX-Magazine that they have kept an open mind about a sequel to the film. On the other hand, producer Lynn Harris said there would always be a possible Hocus Pocus 3.

Since the franchise is about magic and witches, they are timeless, one speaks of a multiverse of witches. Whether there will be a third movie or not, fans are surely excited for Hocus Pocus 2, so it might depend on its performance if there will be another part.

Speaking about Hocus Pocus 2, Midler, aka Winifred, admitted that she’s longed to reprise her role in a sequel. So she was happy to do the film, even though it took 30 years to make.

In contrast, Parker revealed that she had no dreams of doing a second film and only Midler was the one holding talks about it. Although she was open to playing the role of Sarah again, she couldn’t promise that she would go for it.

However, when she heard that Hocus Pocus 2 was actually in the works, she quickly said yes. The Sanderson sisters will be back on screen on Friday September 30, casting their spells and brewing their cauldron.
