After several hints and innuendos, SM Entertainment has finally confirmed the long-awaited reunion of Girls’ Generation. Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun will once again take center stage as they celebrate their group’s 15th anniversary.
There has been talk of a comeback from Girls’ Generation since 2021 after releasing their last album in 2017. In fact, the members themselves have hinted at the possibility of a reunion.
It would be the first time in five years that the girls would get back together as a whole group. AllKpop reported that they would be releasing a new album after releasing Holiday Night in August 2017.
Of course, all eight members will be there for this long-awaited reunion. It looks like there will be a new track that will be an instant hit following their hit songs Genie, Run Devil Run, Lion Heart, Kissing You and more.
Meanwhile, in March, Taeyeon, the group’s leader, hinted at the possibility of the K-pop idols reuniting later this year, like NME reported. At an online fan signing event for her latest album INVU, a fan asked her about the potential comeback of Girls’ Generation to celebrate their 15th anniversary.
Taeyeon revealed that she thinks the band could make a long-awaited return this year, but didn’t give any further details. That conversation quickly went viral and immediately sparked rumors of an imminent comeback for the group.
Additionally, all eight members of the group appeared in an episode of South Korean TV show You Quiz on the Block to celebrate their 14th anniversary in September 2021. This performance was the first time they had undertaken an official activity as a group in four years.
The Girls’ Generation reunion on the show first surfaced a month before the show, and was later confirmed by a tvN announcer. In a statement, the spokesperson revealed that the members and their respective labels have had a discussion to make this possible.
Following the release of their latest album in 2017, Tiffany, Sooyoung and Seohyun announced they were leaving SM Entertainment, although they would remain as Girls’ Generation members, reported GMA Network. Since then they have been busy with their solo activities.
The remaining members of said label, Taeyeon, Sunny, Hyoyeon, Yuri and Yoona, debuted in 2018 as sub-unit Girls’ Generation-oh!GG. Luckily the long wait is finally over and Girls’ Generation will once again be in the spotlight together.
