Coronation of King Charles III: Poll shows majority of Britons do not want Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to attend coronation

December 22, 2022

The Coronation of King Charles III. is taking place next year and many want to know if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be attending this special event. With rumors that the palace should first apologize to them before they attend the coronation, a poll shows the public doesn’t want them to be there.

The enthronement of King Charles has reportedly been in the planning for years, codenamed Operation Golden Orb. But will they attend amid the controversy surrounding the royal family’s strained relationship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle?

Of the express asked its readers in a December 13-21 poll whether the Sussexes should stay away from the coronation. An overwhelming majority of 94 percent, ie 16,316 out of 17,287 participants, said yes – they should not attend the event.

Just five percent, or 878 people, said no and wanted to be included, while 93 voters were undecided. The majority stressed that the coronation was not a family event, which is why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not have to be present.

This is a state occasion and not a family celebration, commented a reader on Express. One even suggested that King Charles should understand that the coronation is a celebration for the British people, while another explained that it is a matter of state, so the Duke and Duchess of Sussex should not be invited.

Others defend the couple and the monarch, stating that they should be invited as members of the royal family and that the king, as a father, can do as he pleases. Another claimed Prince Harry could attend himself as he is still His Majesty’s son.

Although official invitations for the enthronement have not yet been sent out, there are reports that King Charles will offer an olive branch to his youngest child. And that despite the fact that the two make explosive allegations against the royal family in their Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan.

There are also reports that King Charles has already told the exiled couple that they will be welcome at the coronation, which coincides with their son Archie’s fourth birthday on May 6th.

The news follows claims that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want the royal family to apologize to them before attending King Charles’ coronation, the Times reported. Supposedly they demand a meeting with the senior members after the release of their documentary.

They reportedly want the company to take responsibility for the pain and harm they have endured. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are also calling for the meeting to address the claims they have made in their £88million Netflix series.
