BTS Military Service Update: Decision on Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, Jungkook’s Military Exemption may come out later this month

April 13, 2022

BTS military service talks are ongoing and a decision could be made later this month. The Democratic Party of Korea has now set out to settle this issue as soon as possible, and the members of the group have something to say for themselves.

MP Seong Il Jong, secretary of the National Assembly’s People’s Power Defense Committee, said the discussion on the BTS’ military exemption is ongoing. So would Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jungkook serve in the military or will they be released?

There was a discussion between the secretaries of both parties to decide quickly, Seong said via AllKpop. He then revealed that the final decision would be made during the National Assembly session later this month.

He added that the Democratic Party of Korea is now proactively working to resolve the issue of whether or not there will be a special case for military service to the global phenomenon. The government is willing to settle this issue as soon as possible.

He then acknowledged that there is a flaw in the system as the Grammy Awards are not among the 42 competitions that are part of the list of achievements that allow individuals to receive special exemptions from military service. Considering the negative public opinion about it, Seong clarified that the most important thing is the size of the national contribution.

The draft law amending the National Service Act is currently pending in the National Assembly. It aims to enable famous artists who have achieved great things to serve in arts and sports.

As the eldest of the group, Jin could be the first to be drafted into military service. He spoke out on the matter at a press conference at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where they were holding their Permission to Dance on Stage concert.

As he translated on Twitter, he said loudly Indian Express, he had already discussed this with her agency HYBE and entrusted her with all tasks related to military service. All members had entrusted the agency with the matter.

The group had repeatedly said they would answer the call of duty if the nation demanded it. However, given the recent changes to the Military Service Law, they are closely monitoring the situation and continually discussing the matter.

But with said changes, BTS members are now reportedly struggling to manage their schedules as they cannot predict the timing of their military service if it occurs. It’s not easy to make plans, so they’re watching the proposed change closely.
