One of the most iconic television series of the 21st century, Supernatural follows the Winchester brothers Sam and Dean as they travel across America to hunt things that haunt the night. Countless types of antagonists have been portrayed throughout Supernatural’s 15 seasons, including death cults, which also play a part in the overall narrative of The Midnight Club. Midnight Mass, another work by Mike Flanagan, is set in a small settlement on Crockett Island. A former resident returns home after serving four years in prison for killing someone under the influence of alcohol. His return coincides with the arrival of the city’s new enigmatic priest, who appears to have the ability to perform miracles. Like The Midnight Club, Midnight Mass isn’t tied to any one genre. The film has a dense, dialogue-heavy narrative and explores themes of faith, redemption, free will and addiction.
