Based on Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Japanese manga series of the same name, Chainsaw Man is a dark fantasy anime. The series follows a penniless teenager named Denji who hunts devils with his chainsaw devil pet dog, Pochita, to make ends meet and pay off the debt he owes to the yakuza after his father’s death. Despite his cruel conditions, he continues to dream of a normal life with a beautiful girlfriend by his side, but things take a turn for the worse when he is killed after being scammed by his debt collector.

Pochita merges into his body and gives Denji a new life, after which he joins the Public Security devil hunters to fight dangerous devils that threaten the lives of civilians. The action-packed battle scenes and dark subject matter have made the anime a huge hit, so it’s only natural that fans want to see a similar anime. Blue Exorcist tells the story of Rin Okumura, a seemingly ordinary teenager who learns the shocking truth that he is Satan’s son, sent to Assiah so that the Demon Lord might one day use him to conquer the human world. Determined to save Assiah, Rin swears that he will not allow the king of Gehenna (the demon world) to use him as his vessel and begins training in defense of Assiah with his brother Yukiot. While Blue Exorcist doesn’t have much in common with Chainsaw Man story-wise, fans who want an action-packed series with fun characters will enjoy the former as well.

Just like Denji, Robin Sena is a teenager who works for an organization that uses hunters to eliminate deadly creatures. Like the humble and carefree hero of Chainsaw Man, Robin’s life changes in expected ways as she fulfills her duties for the STNJ. The story of the young protagonist who risks her life and fights for the greater good could be interesting for Chainsaw Man, so you should put him on your watch list.

The Touch Corporation, after years of research and hard work, has succeeded in developing technology that can be used to create powerful cyborg soldiers. But when they release this technology to the public, things soon spiral out of control. People who use this technology to incorporate robotic parts into their bodies are referred to as Extended. Interestingly, a man named Juuzou Inui, who has no memories, was created as a soldier by Touch Corporation using the same technology and now runs his own company in the post-war period.

The life story of Inui, who explores the world of Extended and its many mysteries, is somewhat similar to the story of Denji, who ends up with the public safety devil hunters without revealing the many mysteries of the organization and the people he works with know.

‘Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba or simply Kimetsu no Yaiba is a dark fantasy series inspired by Koyoharu Gotouge’s manga series of the same name. The series is about a kind-hearted teenager named Tanjirou Kamado, who returns home one day to find that his entire family has been slaughtered by a demon, except for his sister Nezuko, who is no longer human. Determined to do something for his sister and avenge the death of his loved ones, Tanjirou joins the Demon Slayer Corps which fights the demons to protect ordinary civilians.

As you may have noticed, Denji’s life is very similar to Tanjirou’s, as he too joins an organization that fights devils (demons) in a world riven by the constant conflict between the dark forces’ desire to dominate, and human optimism to survive. Also, Chainsaw Man and Demon Slayer have similar dark themes and action-packed battle scenes that make them special.

Now forced to support each other to survive, the eccentric duo learn that the human race is being targeted by parasitic aliens like Migi, who have taken control of humans after attacking their brains, and which they use to influence the world from the shadows to reproduce and feed.

Just like Denji, Shinichi’s life is transformed when a supernatural organism or entity merges into his body, granting him superhuman powers. Both ‘Parasyte: The Maxim’ and Chainsaw Man feature bloody battle scenes and an engrossing storyline that will keep viewers in suspense. Parasyte fans should also put Chainsaw Man on their watch list.

Just like Denji fighting devils after merging with one himself, Yuuji finds himself in a similar dilemma after eating Sukun’s cursed fingers. Sharing the same dark themes and bloody battle sequences, Jujutsu Kaisen is a great movie for Chainsaw Man fans looking for a similar anime.

Daigo Kagemitsu is a greedy samurai lord who makes a pact with 12 demons for the growth of his prefecture. This grants his wish, but his son is later born without limbs, eyes, skin or ears. Despite somehow surviving, Daigo decides to dump him in a river. Miraculously, he survives again thanks to the help of a medicine man who gives him prostheses and medicine.

Despite his bad luck and other disadvantages, the boy lives on and begins battling demons to regain parts of himself. He is later joined by a boy named Dororo on his journey as they continue to battle against all odds and survive all hardship. The story of survival and tragedy sounds very similar to Denji’s early life story before he merged with Pochita. The dark subject matter of Dororo coupled with the identical demon/devil fighting premise makes the film a great experience for Chainsaw Man fans.
