7.Detroit Metal City (2008)
‘Detroit Metal City’ is an OVA that has little in common with ‘Bastard’ in terms of scope, setting and themes. However, in both animes, heavy metal music plays an important role in the narrative. From the names of the characters, groups and locations to the title itself – Bastard!!! -Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy-‘ is full of references to heavy metal culture. Detroit Metal City tells the story of Souichi Negishi, a reclusive young musician who dreams of becoming a pop artist. But fate seems to have a different plan for him. Realizing his career is going nowhere, he switches to heavy metal and becomes the lead vocalist and guitarist for a blackened death metal band, the Detroit Metal City of the same name. Much to his disappointment, he has great success due to his heavy metal personality: Johannes Krauser II.
6. Inuyasha (2000-2004)
Both the title character of the classic anime series Inuyasha and Dark Schneider have silvery white hair. They also share some personality traits. Both are arrogant and stubborn, but often show a soft side as well. Inuyasha is a demon that is half human and half dog. Like Dark Schneider, he was locked away with magic (in his case in a tree in feudal Japan). After 15-year-old Kagome Higurashi is drawn into the past, Inuyasha persuades her to free him from his magical prison. Although he dislikes Kagome because of her physical resemblance to a shrine maiden named Kikyou, he decides to help her when he discovers that demons are interested in her.

The adventuress of the same name in ‘Goblin Slayer’ is only known for hunting goblins. After her entire party is wiped out on a trip to a goblin shift, the novice priestess meets the goblin hunter who saves her life, and fate changes for both of them. Goblin Slayer anime has the same realistic approach to fantasy as Bastard. Since Takaharu Ozaki is the director of both anime, they are also similar in terms of style and storytelling.
4. Overlord (2015-)
Like Dark Schneider, Overlord’s Ainz Ooal Gown is a tremendously strong main character. They are the ultimate antihero. Overlord is an isekai anime. In the real world, Ainz Ooal Gown used to be an employee named Satoru Suzuki. In the year 2126, after the servers of YGGDRASIL, a full-dive massively multiplayer online role-playing game (DMMORPG), were shut down, one of the players, Momonga, finds himself in an alternate reality, along with all the NPCs who now appear to be developed feelings. After his reincarnation, Anos finds that the world has changed drastically compared to his time. Among the demons, the royal class treats the lower rank demons harshly, and the magic has been weakened by the peace its sacrifice has wrought. Anos decides to become Demon King once more and enrolls in the Demon King’s Academy.
2. Berserker (2016-2017)
Like the Bastard source material, Berserk began as a manga series in the 1980s. Both projects show a clear impression of the time in their characterization and their world construction. Also, the 2016 anime adaptation of Berserk uses a lot of heavy metal music. The story in Berserk revolves around a mercenary named Guts. He joins the group known as the Band of the Hawk after their leader Griffith defeats him. However, he eventually becomes disillusioned after realizing that Griffith is willing to sacrifice everything on the altar of his own dreams. After witnessing horrifying events during what is known as the Eclipse, Guts becomes a branded wanderer known as the Black Swordsman.

As in Bastard, morality and religion are important motifs in The Seven Deadly Sins. Meliodas, the protagonist of the latter, is an ancient powerful being like Dark Schneider. At the beginning of the series, Meliodas also embarks on a journey to reunite his own team, the Seven Deadly Sins of the same name. The plot follows Princess Elizabeth Liones. After the Great Holy Knights take control of their kingdom, Elizabeth sets out to find the sins. Over time, she becomes their ally and realizes that she and Meliodas have known each other for millennia.
