Based on the Japanese manga series of the same name by Daisuke Aizawa, The Eminence in Shadow or Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! an isekai anime. The series follows Cid Kagenou who was reincarnated into a noble family living in the magical realm after dying in a traffic accident on Earth. Interestingly, he recalled all the memories of his earlier life, when he acted as a vigilante under cover of night. Using his newfound magical powers, Cid creates a group of powerful fighters calling themselves the Shadow Garden to fight against the imaginary organization called the Cult of Diablos.
However, Cid is hilariously unaware that the fictional enemies he pits his fighters against actually exist in reality. But the story doesn’t end there, as it turns out that despite his enormous power, Cid is quite clueless about the world, and sheer luck keeps steering Shadow Garden in the right direction. If you like the fun adventures of Cid and his shadow organization, we have a few recommendations for you. 5. Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles (2021 -)
Haruto Amakawa is a normal teenager who dies in a terrible accident, only to wake up in a strange world as a boy named Rio. For some mysterious reason, Haruto and Rio’s memories soon merge, creating a complex fusion of their personalities. Using his newfound magical powers, Rio makes a name for himself around the world by rescuing the princess of the Kingdom of Bertram from kidnappers.
Though it earns him some recognition and eventually joins the prestigious Bertram Royal Academy, Rio soon realizes he has stepped into a world of trouble. For those who love The Eminence in Shadow and are looking for another action-packed Isekai series, be sure to add Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles. Though they differ greatly in storyline, the latter has a lot to offer fans of the Isekai genre.
4. The Rising of the Shield Hero (2019 -)
Naofumi Iwatani is an ordinary otaku who is summoned to the kingdom of Melromarc along with three other humans to become a cardinal hero. While the others are equipped with powerful offensive weapons, Naofumi is unlucky to be the shield hero. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he is taunted by his fellow Cardinal Heroes and even falsely accused by Malty Melromarc of taking advantage of them.
Luckily, rejected by the public, Naofumi encounters a half-human slave named Raphtalia and, with her help, vows to win back everyone’s trust and reestablish himself as a hero. While The Rising of the Shield Hero and The Eminence in Shadow have little in common, anyone who enjoys the Isekai genre should check out the former as well.
3. No Game No Life (2014)
Sora and Shiro are step-siblings who have done very well and made a name for themselves in the world of online gaming. One day they are brought to the world of Disboard by the one true god named Tet. There they learn the absolute rules of the world and soon start playing complex political games to become the rulers of entire empires. No Game No Life is an isekai series like The Eminence in Shadow in which the main characters pursue a higher purpose after being transported/reincarnated to a new realm.
2. Overlord (2015 -)
When Yggdrasil, the popular online virtual reality game, was about to close, Momonga, the master of the dark guild Ainz Ooal Gown, decided to keep playing until the last moment. However, as time went well past the deadline, he suddenly realized that he was actually stuck in the game world with no way out. Forced into this new reality, Momonga decides to take the initiative and conquer the world with his loyal minions.
Just like Eminence in the Shadows, Overlord follows a protagonist who is thrown into an alternate reality/world where, with the help of his minions, he tries to achieve a specific goal. Even if the protagonists differ in some respects, Overlord is still an entertaining film.

The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat will be an enjoyable read for fans of The Eminence in Shadow, as it’s about an overpowering protagonist who keeps his true agenda to himself and devotes himself to his big plans every day, similarly like Cid Kagenou.
