AI robots have become the dominant species on the planet, while humanity has all but disappeared. The story really begins when two farm robots, E92 and A37, find a girl named Sara and secretly raise her. When she grows up, Sara sets out to search for other human survivors. The fate of the cryogenized human race hinges on Sara’s ability to find a password that will awaken them from their deep sleep. She also has a time limit, as the life support system has to shut down within minutes of the anime’s climax. A flashback reveals that Dr. Fields knew this password when he was still human, but that he deliberately chose not to reveal it to Geneva or Zurich, the artificial intelligence systems that protect Eden’s bases, before adopting his new robotic identity.
After Sara escapes from a meeting with Zero that nearly cost her her life and erases her parents’ memories, the two clash for the last time on a larger scale, with Sara desperate to uncover Zero’s hidden knowledge.
Who is Zero?
Zero is the boss of Eden 3 and turns him into Dr. Weston Fields. He was the one Zurich was referring to when the AI mentioned “another remaining human being”. Dr. Fields put his subconscious inside this robot, stripping it of the thin bits of humanity left in it.
Fields wanted to create the perfect world and Project Eden was Dr. Fields’ attempt to try to save humanity. But this scientist inevitably went insane over the death of his wife Ashley. To the Eden season 1 finale, Sara manages to reprogram Fields somehow, thanks to the audio recordings and her own knowledge of the fact that he was once a human. Zero manages to take advantage of these memories and saves Sara’s life, giving her his at the same time. By doing so, you also give up the password.
Eden season 1 ending explained
Realizing that humanity must have a second chance, Fields hands him the password. He asks Sara to smile at him before giving it to him. Heading into Zurich, Sara repeats the three robot rules we heard at the beginning of the season. As soon as Sara finishes, the 35,000 cryogenic pods come out of the ground. Sara opens one and finds a baby inside.
The Eden season 1 ends with a new world in perspective, with E92 and A37 reverting to their previous forms after being reprogrammed by Zero. Their conversation echoes that of their first meeting with Sara. In a hopeful final twist, it is also revealed that Dr. Fields’ consciousness has transferred to Emily, a move that might have seemed unworthy to her. Instead, he seems liberated in his new canine body, now able to enjoy himself in the natural splendor that he has dedicated his life to protecting, just as his daughter wanted.
