Beyond Evil season 1 ending explained
In the end, the investigation is successful. For two people who were reluctant to team up, who doubted each other, and had their own secrets, Dong-sik and Joo-won worked brilliantly as a team to solve the case. Dong-sik and Joo-won decided to trust each other to do their share of the work to extract confessions from those involved in the cover-up. After the final arrest of Joo-won’s father is made, Dong-sik asks Joo-won to arrest him for his role in moving Min-jung’s fingertips instead of informing him.
In an emotional moment for both of them, Joo-won reluctantly cuffed Dong-sik’s hand, signifying a moment of kept promises between the two. Dong-sik is sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation for what he has done. The duo reunite in 2022, after Dong-sik is released from prison and Joo-won is now in the women’s and youth affairs department in another province. The series ends with his smile, face to face, a bit like the end of the first episode. But this time their smiles mean something very different: respect and, perhaps, joy.
One wonders what Jung-je would do when he got out of prison and if the friends he grew up with for 20 years would forgive him for his actions. Jung-je crushed Yu-yeon, but he spent the next twenty years in a conflict of interest due to a vague memory of what happened that night, which left him with little recollection of what happened that night. ” It made him wonder if he had really run over Yu-yeon or not.
Jung-je clearly regretted his actions, especially when it came to Dong-sik. Despite their 20-year friendship, what happened may be difficult for Dong-sik to accept and forget. As the series ends on a happy note, with the culprits behind bars and a sense of closure for Dong-sik, that might not be the case for Jung-je.
