Explanation of the end of season 3 of Atypical!

Ever since he found out Elsa cheated on him, Doug has been trying to figure out whether or not he could forgive her, and unfortunately he had a hard time joking around with his wife. Having decided it was best for the two of them to get out of the limbo they are trapped in, Elsa suggested parting, which Doug did not welcome.

However, in episode 9 of season 3 of the series, we see them tracing their memories and rediscovering the feelings they had for each other. Although Doug almost made a decision that could have ended his marriage for good, the season 3 finale of atypical sees Elsa and Doug reconcile.

atypical ending of season 3

By trying to bring some drama into Elsa and Doug’s lives, the show didn’t get caught up in an inexplicable act that eliminates the potential for redemption. He also didn’t try to fix things too quickly and put his problems under the rug and more importantly, he didn’t unrealistically push for both of them to divorce with a possible twist for Doug regardless of their shared history.

Beyond that, we also see how tempting it is to return to the closet after setting foot in it, even if you are in love or have confidence in your partner. The fear of losing everything you love is very real, as Izzie’s character beautifully expresses.

Sam’s relationship with Paige and Zahid is also beautifully depicted in a comforting, three-dimensional way. We loved seeing Sam’s development in general and how he improved expressing his love to those closest to him. This is beautifully portrayed in the final episode of the series.
