Surviving squads unite in ‘The Suicide Squad’ set photo

May 15, 2022

As production winds down on his next – and possibly last – Marvel movie, James Gunn has shared a set photo from his first DC movie. Before returning to the Maison des Idées to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3which just wrapped filming earlier this month, Gunn jumped on the distinguished competition to direct The Suicide Squadthe standalone sequel to David Ayer’s 2016 offering.

The result was easily one of the most acclaimed DCEU entries to date. Although it failed to light up the box office, critics and fans loved it. MYGunn’s irreverent tone, but also the way Gunn made us care about his cast of bizarre characters, meaning we mourned those who perished in the fight against Starro the Conqueror and applauded those who made it to the live generics.

And in this newly revealed set photo, Gunn is pictured posing with three of the surviving Task Force X-ers, as well as one that fans really wish had survived. “On the field of Jotunheim with [the Suicide Squad]Gunn captioned the image, which also features Daniela Melchior (Ratcatcher II), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), David Dastmalchian (Polka-Dot Man) and Idris Elba (Bloodsport).

Despite being four of the most popular characters from the movie, alongside King Shark, we haven’t seen any of these guys in the DCEU yet. Luckily, there are a few places they could appear next. Gunn is working on a second season of Peacemakerwhich managed to turn John Cena’s anti-hero into a fan favorite himself, as well as a spinoff for Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller.

Here is the official trailer for "Hotel Transylvania: Transformania"

Chris Smith could easily team up with one of his former teammates as Peacemaker continues, otherwise Waller could re-recruit Bloodsport and co. in his own show. And hopefully Margot Robbie can twist some DC exec’s arm to give us that Harley/Poison Ivy rom-com we all want. For now, however, you can live again The Suicide Squad streaming it on HBO Max.
