Sigourney Weaver’s role in ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ revealed

July 1, 2022

It may have been a long-confirmed fatality, but it did nothing to dampen the hype surrounding the reveal for Avatar: The Way of the Waterthe sequel to James Cameron’s record-breaking sci-fi epic Avatar. Armed with impressive world-building and tender stories woven into its action-packed escapades, it’s a franchise we’ll be seeing for quite some time.

However, many questions were raised when it was revealed in 2010 that Sigourney Weaver, who played the now deceased Dr. Grace Augustine in the first film, would be returning for the sequel. Part of the mystery was cleared up in 2014 when Weaver revealed that Augustine wouldn’t be returning, but now, 12 years later, we finally have a full, and particularly delicious, answer to that; Weaver will no longer be playing the head of the Avatar program, but rather Jake Sully and Neytiri’s adopted teenage daughter – Kiri.
