When it comes to heartbreaking tragedies, whether ignited by love or human greed, no author has ever managed to soar so high and so true as william shakespeare. Perhaps this is why many stories today often feature themes, narrative beats, and character motifs that trace back to these plays by the bard himself.
But if you’ve ever thought Shakespeare lacked a certain modern flavor, it’s because most of us have grown accustomed to speculative storytelling, involving surreal or fantastical elements that include science fiction, horror, etc. Well, apparently some writers have taken it upon themselves to put a unique spin on his work, blending elements of horror with the 16th-century poet’s beautifully archaic and inexplicably complex prose to create literary horror tragedies.
