Look Both Ways (2022) review – Lili Reinhart shines in the best Netflix movie of the year

August 18, 2022

This review for the Netflix movie Look Both Ways (2022), starring Lili Reinhart, contains no spoilers.

Students always have the whole world in front of them and they are led to believe that a plan will always work. Life never turns out the way they want within five years.

But, if you’re like me, you think everything happens for a reason. You believe destiny is real and you are meant to be in the moment you find yourself. Look Both Ways (2022) is the first film I’ve seen that portrays both sides of the same situation very well. On the eve of her college graduation, Natalie’s (Lili Reinhart) life diverges into parallel realities: one in which she becomes pregnant and stays in her hometown to raise her child and another in which she moves to LA. to pursue the career of his dreams.

First and foremost, Lili Reinhart absolutely shines in this film and she takes on both roles effortlessly. She has such a natural charm on screen and everyone will be able to relate to Natalie as a character.

Her dream is to become an animator, and it comes true in two very different ways in her five-year plan. What struck me was the way his relationships unfolded. When she stays home with Gabe (Danny Ramirez) to raise her daughter Rosie, she’s anxious and overwhelmed because she doesn’t want the obligation to marry him.

She always had different feelings for him as a friend and secretly too. So their whole relationship was one and if, but they were afraid to dive in because they don’t want to lose the momentum that they have.

On the other hand, when Natalie moves to Los Angeles with her best friend Cara (Aisha Dee), things seem to turn out differently. It’s fate that she finds a job as an assistant to her favorite animator, and she meets Jake (David Corenswet) who is exactly who she imagines herself to be with. Watching the two love stories unfold over the span of five years was interesting and you could see the different dynamics.

But once events start to coalesce, certain encounters were always bound to happen to him because it was destined. And the relationships are different. The cursed phrase of “What if?” can haunt anyone, and this movie shows it. Rather, it highlights how to move forward and take those risks to focus on your journey as an individual.

Look both ways is such a refreshing and original Netflix story and it has a stunning performance from Lili Reinhart. It’s beautiful, endearing and can teach anyone how to live in the moment. It’s a movie that can be interpreted in many ways, but it always shows the main point that your dreams can be achieved.

There are two ways to see it all and while the journey may be difficult, the endgame is worth the time and effort. It might be one of the best Netflix movies of the year and it’s a necessary watch because of the message. There are no more five-year plans for any of us, we’ve resorted to everyday life because it’s just easier to deal with. There is so much to learn from this movie and it also proves that Lili Reinhart needs to be in more movies.
