James Cameron praises Kate Winslet’s “Avatar 2” underwater apnea

December 16, 2021

James Cameron is no stranger to working with water. In The Abyss the actors left the set after an overly realistic drowning sequence and Titanic featured a 5 million gallon tank in which the scenery could be lowered to simulate the sinking of the ship. . Avatar 2 will continue this habit, with the story taking us into the underwater biomes of Pandora.

As with the first film, Cameron uses advanced motion capture, but insisted that the actors actually dive in in order to accurately show underwater movement. So, as for Titanic much of the film was shot in a 900,000 gallon tank that can simulate ocean currents and waves.
