Ironically unsuccessful action blockbuster saves face on streaming

June 26, 2022

With a combined box office of just under $6.5 billion, Michael Bay ranks fourth among the highest-grossing directors in film history behind Steven Spielberg, the Russo Brothers and Peter Jackson. However, the action author’s filmography has received little critical acclaim, which makes Ambulance the most ironic film of his career.

A score of 69% for Rotten Tomatoes puts it at the level of The rock as the highest-rated episode in Bay’s back catalog, but Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s bank robbery story gone horribly wrong holds an audience score of 88%, just ahead of double act of Sean Connery/Nicolas Cage 85 percent.
