Adam McKay knows a thing or two about having his finger on the pulse of what modern audiences want to see from their studio comedies, having run the Will Ferrell vehicles. AnchormanTalladega Nights: The Ballad by Ricky Bobby Step brothers and The Other Guys to box office success and a place in the pantheon of pop culture.

Since his unfriendly breakup with Ferrell, he has branched out to become an awards season favorite after leading some sharp, black, comedic socio-political satires. Vice and The Big Short . McKay’s next Netflix release Don’t Look Up is designed to balance the best of both worlds, at least if early reactions are any indication.
