Star Wars: The Bad Batch Episode 1 Recap
Episode 1 of “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” begins shortly after the end of the series “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and is titled “Aftermath.” The Empire issued Order 66 that all clones must execute all Jedi. Also known as the “Great Jedi Purge,” the mass execution of the Jedi has massive implications for the “Star Wars” timeline. During the purge, the Jedi Knight Depa Billaba is on the planet Kaller, along with his young Padawan Caleb Dume, and is fighting the Separatist forces.
A clone trooper kills Billaba, but Dume is able to escape thanks to a Clone Force 99 hunter. His genetic mutations and technology allow members of Clone Force 99 to resist Order 66 and not feel pressured to execute the Jedi. In the great “Star Wars” timeline, Dume will be better known as Jedi Knight Kanan Jarrus and will play a central role in “Star Wars Rebels.”
The Bad Batch returns to Kamino and meets Omega, a mutant female clone of Jango Fett. Admiral Tarkin sends the team on a mission to the planet Onderon to test their loyalty and see if the clones have any use in the Empire’s grand plan. The team is tasked with finding and executing a group of suspected insurgents on this distant planet. Crossing the path of the insurgents, Bad Batch realizes that they are led by Saw Gerrera.
Members of Bad Batch refuse to kill insurgents. However, Crosshair is absolutely interested in fulfilling his mission. The elite clones are captured by Gerrera’s militia, but are then allowed to leave. The Bad Batch returns to Kamino instead of disappearing to take Omega with them. Tarkin takes Crosshair, and the Admiral exploits his vulnerability to the Inhibitor Chip. During a skirmish, Bad Batch faces one of his own and is forced to escape with Omega and leave Crosshair on Kamino.
