Riv, Yuri Kitayama wrote and illustrated the Japanese light novel Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles. It began its online serialization on the user-generated Shôsetsuka ni Nar website in February 2014. It was then acquired by Hobby Japan, which since October 2015 has published 18 volumes under the HJ Bunko Impressions label. An adaptation of the tenkla manga to online art was made from October 2016 to February 2017, via Hobby Japan’s Comic Fire website, but was discontinued due to the artist’s poor health. Since July 2017, Futago Minaduki has created a second art adaptation manga for the same website, which has been compiled into five Tankbon volumes. The light novel and the second manga were licensed in North America by the J-Novel Club. TMS Entertainment will release an adaptation of the animated television series on July 6, 2021.
