Rick and Morty season 5 plot: what is it?

True to the tradition of the previous season finale, the fourth season also ends with dramatic suspense, due to Rick’s casual alteration of realities. The season finale title, “Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri,” is a nod to “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” and refers to many popular cultures that the series integrates seamlessly into the plot. The episode introduces the Space character Beth, who leads an insurgency against the Galactic Federation. She talks to a doctor about her clone on Earth, confirming Rick’s cloning of Beth at the end of season three.

The doctor reveals that Rick implanted a bomb in Space Beth’s neck to prevent her from visiting Earth. Space Beth and Rick go to dinner at Shoney’s, and Rick mistakenly blurts out that Space Beth may be a clone. After a brief encounter with Tammy, Rick, Beth, and Jerry explore with Space Beth. The two Bethes believe they are clones and Rick cannot tell them apart.

Meanwhile, Rick kills Tammy and Birdperson, aka Phoenixperson, is neutralized by Space Beth, with a little help from Jerry. At the end of the events, Rick retrieves the memory tube containing the memory of Beth’s cloning, but since he has chosen to resort to uncertainty, it is impossible to discern the identity of the original Beth. The season also sees Birdperson as a potential nemesis in the making, his transformation mirroring that of Anakin Skywalker as Darth Vader.

The next season will see Beth of Space take a lead role. According to the animatic, a few more Ricks will die, and Morty could finally express his love to Jessica. The season will also introduce the character of Mr. Nimbus, a fish-like anthropomorph who is one of Rick’s longtime enemies. At the same time, Birdperson, now Phoenixperson, could play a central antagonistic role in the coming seasons. An episode of the fifth season will focus on Morty’s relationship with a woman other than Jessica, and we can’t wait to see it.

The evolution of Rick’s character in recent seasons has been interesting, and season five would explore Rick and Jerry’s relationship in more detail. Also, we hope to see the villainous Morty in one of the episodes, but that’s just wishful thinking. Get ready for the fireworks, because the fifth season will be healthier and more realistic than the previous ones. You can check out the trailer for season 5 below!
