Despite all its dark moments, Fruits Basket is still a shojo job, a slice of life, and you don’t expect it to get much darker than it already was. This was the case before fruits basket season 3 episode 8 hit our screens this week. Tohru and Kyo’s relationship has reached a point of no return and, more worryingly, Akito is completely out of control, leaving us in the dark about Tohru’s safety.
We recently learned that TMS Entertainment’s beloved anime will end in 13 episodes without Part 2, which can only mean things end quickly. Sad as it may sound, we have been waiting for this ending for a long time and we hope it will be at least satisfactory.
fruits basket season 3 Episode 9 has many answers to give. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know about the latest episode of Fruits Basket, including its premiere date and air time, so you can be the first to find out.
Fruits Basket Season 3 Episode 8 Recap
Disclaimer: If you haven’t seen Fruits Basket season 3 episode 8 yet, you’d better skip to the next section; you will find spoilers below.
Episode 8 was the one manga fans have been waiting for years: Tohru finally finds the courage to try telling Kyo that she loves him. Kyo has always been a bit harsh and rarely showed his feelings, but his affection for Tohru was evident throughout the series, so whatever reaction we were hoping for, it wasn’t this.
Kyo obviously loves Tohru deeply, but after her attempt to confess, he interrupts her and tells her that he feels sorry for her because she has a crush on someone like him. After a series of episodes filled with traumatic flashbacks, Kyo finally lets the truth go. When he moved in with his adoptive father, Kazuma, Kyo met Tohru’s mother, Kyoko.
As we’ve seen in previous seasons, Kyoko has always helped children in need, including Tohru’s friends. Despite Kyo’s mistrust, stemming from his own family’s rejection, he forms an unlikely friendship with Kyoko and hopes to meet and befriend her daughter as well.
Unfortunately, Kyo was treated so badly by his father and the other Sohmas that he couldn’t deal with his feelings when little Tohru disappeared and was saved by Yuki. At the time, Kyo was unaware of Yuki’s own traumas and believed that the Zodiac Circle Rat had it all, including family love. Believing that Yuki had ruined the only friendship he could have had, he never visited Kyoko again.
He only saw Tohru’s mother once, seconds before the car accident that killed her. Kyo thinks that he could have prevented Kyoko’s death if he had shot her in time, but was reluctant to do so because bringing her close to him would have turned into a cat on a busy public road. In her last moment, Kyoko seemed to acknowledge and Kyo thinks her last words to him were “I will never forgive you.”
Back in the present, Kyo tells Tohru that she shouldn’t forgive him or be with him. Devastated, Tohru challenges him, claiming that she still loves him and doesn’t need to forgive him to be with him. She refuses to believe that her mother can say such a thing, but Kyo runs away anyway.
Yuki, who was nearby, runs after Kyo, as he had promised that he would never let him hurt Tohru, but Kyo is faster and fails to catch him. Shocked, Tohru is left alone and is found by Akito, who is still holding the knife he used to stab Kureno. Even though you’ve read the manga and know the conclusion, it was such a heartbreaking episode and Tuesday can’t come soon enough!
