In episode 4, the other members of Spearhead scold Theoto for his temper, despite largely agreeing with him. They think Lena will be transferred to another unit or will stop being a dog trainer altogether. As for Lena, she continues to grapple with her personal ideals and their applications in the real world. Annette and Karlstahl advise you not to worry about things that are beyond your control. Karlstahl, in particular, tells him that pursuing his perfect ideals in an imperfect world is just plain silly. Realizing that she has her own prejudices, Lena approaches Shin and apologizes. She also asks him to give her the names of her classmates.

During their conversation, Shin reveals that he has continued the tradition of his original unit that the responsibility for preserving the names and memories of all slain members rests on the shoulders of the last survivor. He then tells her that he has collected the names and memories of 561 comrades to date. Shin then connects Lena with other members of the Spearhead, to whom he apologizes. Although they accept her apology, they repeat that they do not believe that she is equal to them. At the end of the episode, Lena learns that Shin is Shourei Nouzen’s brother.

In episode 5, Shin could learn what Shourei meant to Lena, and the two could form a connection by sharing their memories of Shourei with each other. Lena might come to see Karlstahl for who he really is, a man who is aware of the dire situation but is unwilling to do anything to change it.
