86 episode 9 spoilers

In Episode 8, Shinei reveals to Raiden that Shourei is the shepherd of the current Legion attack, and that his brother is coming to find him. Raiden promises to stay by her side until the end. Desperately trying to find a way to save the Iron Spears, Lena asks Annette for help. In response, Annette attacks her and ends up telling her the truth about herself and her family. After the war started and the rights of the 86 were disenfranchised, he forced his father not to welcome his neighbors’ children, one of whom was his friend because he was being abused at school. He also tells Lena that his father created para-RAID technology by conducting experiments on the 86ers, most of whom were children.

Annette reveals that her father did not die in an accident as stated. He committed suicide due to overwhelming guilt for his actions. Annette then breaks all ties with Lena, forcing the latter to turn again to Karlstahl, who refuses to help her and reveals his own disillusionment with the Republic. During what appears to be their last communication, Lena realizes that Shinei is after her brother. Shinei tells him to leave the country through the opening that the Iron Spear created by destroying Shourei’s unit.

The episode ends when Shourei directs his forces towards the approaching Iron Lance, intending to make Shinei a member of the Legion. In episode 9, Shinei and Shourei were finally able to face each other after all these years. Despite what Shinei has told her, Lena is likely to continue her efforts to help the Iron Spears.
